What changed

ClaudeDevs said in an X post on September 23, 2026 that it had added local support to Projects in Claude Code, so threads can now run on your own machine. Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent.

Anthropic's waitlist page describes Projects as a conversation: you say what you need as it comes, and Claude picks each request up, coordinates the threads, and reports back as it goes. The same page calls Projects new in Claude Code and an upgrade for the projects people already have in chat and Cowork.

Who gets access

ClaudeDevs said it is working through the waitlist and giving Projects access to more Pro and Max users. Anthropic's waitlist page says Projects is rolling out in stages and that joining the waitlist is how to get earlier access.

ClaudeDevs also said that people who used Claude projects before are still being migrated to the new experience. The waitlist page calls existing chat and Cowork projects an upgrade and does not say that move is still unfinished.

How to try it

ClaudeDevs pointed people who have not signed up yet to the early-access waitlist at claude.com/form/projects. Anthropic's page there asks you to join the waitlist for earlier access during a staged rollout. The waitlist page copy has no command, install step, or checklist for running threads on a local machine.

Still unclear

The ClaudeDevs post and Anthropic's waitlist page do not state a price, a usage cap, Team or Enterprise eligibility, or a date when Projects leaves the waitlist. They also leave unspecified how a thread on your machine differs from any other thread, what software must be installed, and what happens if the machine goes offline.

Read the complete ClaudeDevs X post (370 characters). Cross-checked each line against Anthropic's waitlist page at https://claude.com/form/projects (complete extracted text, 415 characters) and a bounded excerpt of the Claude Code changelog at https://code.claude.com/docs/en/changelog.md. Marked verified only where official waitlist copy matched. Left local support for threads on your machine, Pro and Max expansion, and unfinished migration as ClaudeDevs claims. No product test.
