What changed

The Claude Code changelog adds two related lines. One is "Added Claude Mods: plugins may now modify deeper behavior." The next is "Added You should know, a built-in mod where a side agent watches your back and flags things you or Claude might miss."

ClaudeDevs posted the announcement at 2026-10-02T20:25:59Z under the title "You should Know." The account said the plugin "scans Claude's output for important information you might miss to help keep you in the loop," and that the mod works by "spinning off a sideagent to observe Claude's output." The post says the side agent observes Claude's output, and the changelog says it flags things you or Claude might miss. Neither source lists which details count as important.

The post points to the mods guide for more on mods. That article says a mod is a small JavaScript or TypeScript file that runs inside the Claude Code session. It can watch the session, change what Claude Code does, or draw its own UI in the terminal or the desktop app. Mods are hooks that ship inside plugins, and each one sees every event in the session as it happens. The guide does not name You should know.

Who it is for

The changelog gives the enable command for first-party sessions with telemetry on. The ClaudeDevs post prints the same command and does not add that condition. The changelog does not define first-party, and it does not describe telemetry off.

Claude Code 2.1.287 or later is the mods guide's requirement for mods, and the guide says mods are on by default. The You should know bullet names no version of its own. This plugin still has its own enable command.

The guide says a mod runs on your machine with the same access Claude Code has, and that a published mod is written by its publisher, not Anthropic. The changelog calls You should know a built-in mod. That trust warning is the guide's rule for mods from other publishers.

How to turn it on

Type the command below. The ClaudeDevs post and the changelog print the same line. The ending @builtin is the marketplace id, the same @marketplace form the mods guide uses for an install such as token-weather@my-mods.

The changelog gives the command for first-party sessions with telemetry on. The post does not state that condition. The changelog does not define first-party and does not describe telemetry off, so these pages do not show how to tell whether your session qualifies.

Enable command from the ClaudeDevs post and the Claude Code changelog. The changelog gives it for first-party sessions with telemetry on. @builtin is the marketplace id.

/plugin enable cc-plugin-you-should-know@builtin

What is still open

Price and token cost are unnamed in the post, the mods guide, and the You should know bullet. The flag criteria, the hooks inside cc-plugin-you-should-know, and a disable command are unnamed there too. The changelog does not define first-party, does not describe telemetry off, and this bullet includes no date or version.

Checked on October 2, 2026. This article relies on the ClaudeDevs post timestamped 2026-10-02T20:25:59Z, the Claude Mods and You should know bullets on the Claude Code changelog, and the claude.dev guide Getting started with Claude Code mods. The mods guide does not mention You should know. The You should know bullet includes no date or version. This article does not cover later version sections of the changelog. The plugin was not installed. The pages name no price, and none is added here.
