What changed
Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent in the terminal and editors. You give it a task; it edits files, runs commands, and keeps going until the task is done or a usage cap stops it. One of those caps is a 5-hour session limit. ClaudeDevs described hitting that cap mid-task as cutting off mid-edit, the behavior this wrap-up is meant to replace.
On 25 September 2026, ClaudeDevs said Claude Code will try to find a graceful stopping point when that 5-hour limit is hit mid-task, wrapping up what it can. ClaudeDevs said the wrap-up gets a small, fixed allowance pulled from the user's weekly limit. The post does not give a number for that allowance.
Who gets it
ClaudeDevs described the change as rolling out, with different cadence by plan. During rollout, Pro plans get wrap-up once a week. Max and Team Premium plans get it each time a 5-hour session limit is hit. ClaudeDevs named those three plans. The post does not say whether Team Standard or Enterprise get wrap-up.
- Session hits the 5-hour cap A Claude Code session reaches the 5-hour session limit while a task is still in progress.
- Wrap-up allowance Claude Code gets a small, fixed allowance pulled from the weekly limit and tries to stop at a graceful point.
- Keep going If the task still needs work after wrap-up, ClaudeDevs says you can continue with extra usage.
- Pro plans: once a week, during rollout
- Max and Team Premium plans: each time a 5-hour session limit is hit
| Plan | When wrap-up runs |
|---|---|
| Pro | Once a week |
| Max | Each time a 5-hour session limit is hit |
| Team Premium | Each time a 5-hour session limit is hit |

Read the complete ClaudeDevs X post (25 September 2026, https://x.com/ClaudeDevs/status/2103561342057943314). Cross-checked `/extra-usage` against the Claude Code changelog at https://code.claude.com/docs/en/changelog.md. Wrap-up behavior, weekly-limit allowance, plan cadence, and extra-usage continuation are attributed to ClaudeDevs. The changelog documents `/extra-usage` as a session slash command. That page does not document wrap-up allowance, 5-hour limits, or plan cadence. ClaudeDevs named Pro, Max, and Team Premium; the post does not assign wrap-up to Team Standard or Enterprise. No product test of wrap-up or extra usage.
